Why one-ways cost what they cost

The math behind a one-way private jet

When you charter a one-way, the aircraft usually has to fly back empty. Here's how that — and the empty-leg fix — actually changes the price.

Same route, three prices save up to 70%

Teterboro (TEB) → Palm Beach (PBI) · super-midsize jet · indicative estimates*

Full one-way charter~$48,000
You pay for the aircraft's time on both legs — your flight plus its empty return to base.
Equivalent round trip~$55,000
Both legs are yours — only slightly more than the one-way, because the return is already booked.
Empty-leg matched one-way~$15,500
A jet already needs to fly your route. You're filling a seat on a flight that's going anyway.
Cost includes empty return Repositioning paid by someone else

What "repositioning" really means

A jet flying empty to get where it needs to be — that's the cost built into your one-way.

The fix: catch a jet that already needs your route

Empty legs are repositioning flights a jet has to make anyway. They're released unpredictably — and when one matches your route, the savings are real.

How one-way empty-leg matching works

Instead of paying for an aircraft to fly out empty and back empty, we match your one-way to a jet that's already flying that corridor for another client — or repositioning to its next job.

  1. Tell us your one-way. Origin, destination, approximate dates, and the flexibility you have.
  2. We scan live empty-leg inventory. Across FAA Part 135 operators, with preferential selection of ARGUS and Wyvern-rated carriers.
  3. You get up to 3 matched options. On-demand one-way, empty-leg one-way, and a hybrid — each with honest from-pricing.
  4. Set alerts. We watch your corridor and ping you the moment a matching empty leg drops.

FAQ

One-way private jet, demystified

The five questions everyone asks about one-way pricing and empty legs — answered straight.

When you charter a one-way, the aircraft usually has to return to its base or reposition to its next booked trip. You are effectively paying for the aircraft's time on both legs of its journey. On a round trip, the return leg is already your own. This is why a one-way on a midsize jet like a TEB to PBI route can land near the round-trip price — you're covering the empty return flight.
An empty leg (also called a repositioning or ferry flight) is a flight an aircraft has to make without paying passengers — for example, returning to base after dropping off a charter client, or repositioning to pick up the next one. Because the jet is flying empty anyway, operators discount these seats heavily, often 40–75% off equivalent on-demand charter. The catch: timing, route, and aircraft are fixed, so you need flexibility.
You can, and for flexible travel it often pays off — but empty legs are released unpredictably and can disappear within hours. If your trip is date-critical (a meeting, a wedding, a connection), book a guaranteed on-demand one-way. If you're flexible by 1–3 days, set up a one-way deal alert and you may catch a matching repositioning flight at a fraction of the cost.
Yes. One-way international is common on transatlantic routes (for example LFRQ to TEB) and between the U.S., Caribbean, and Europe. International one-ways often involve longer repositioning, so empty-leg savings can be especially large when a jet needs to cross an ocean anyway. Customs, permit, and overflight requirements are handled through the operating carrier.
For empty-leg deals: flexible on date (±1–3 days), flexible on exact airport (a nearby reliever airport is fine), and ready to confirm fast. The more flexible you are, the more deals match your route. For on-demand one-ways, you set the exact schedule — flexibility only changes the price.
